Privacy notice

Last updated 20 Oct 2026

Plain-language draft. It must be reviewed by a lawyer before public launch.

What we collect

Your mobile number (to sign you in), your name, your neighbourhood, what you list or request, messages you send through FreeNear, and reports you make. Photos you upload are re-encoded on your device so location data in them is removed.

What we never show

Your phone number, exact location and pickup address are never shown publicly. A pickup address is shared only with the person you accept, and only if you choose to. You can share your number in a chat yourself.

How we use it

To run the service: show listings near you, send codes and notifications, prevent fraud and abuse, and keep moderation records. We don't sell your data or use it for advertising profiles.

Location

We store only an approximate point (rounded to about 550 metres) to sort by distance. You can choose an area instead of using GPS.

Who processes it

Our hosting and database providers, and our SMS provider to deliver codes. Each processes data only for us.

How long we keep it

While your account is active. Sign-in codes expire in 10 minutes. Rate-limit records are deleted within a day.

Your rights

Download your data or delete your account at any time from Settings → Account. Deleting removes your profile, number, listings and messages; anonymised safety records may be kept where the law requires.

Contact
